Memories of Alan Hodgdon
My father, Alan Hodgdon, lived a life full of climbing and other outdoor activities from January 1942 until September, 2019. I hosted a memorial web site from October 2019 to May 2022 at alan.jhodgdon.com for him. Friends and family members sent photos, audio and video recordings, and stories, which I posted on the site; others read the posts and added their comments and thoughts.
In addition, my dad’s partner Gwen, my sister Alice, and I (with help from other friends and family) compiled a dictionary of the silly language that Dad invented, which he called Consolidated English. This was available on the web site for people to download.
In May of 2022, I reformatted and archived the live site into a PDF file (aside from two audio recordings and one video, which are linked below). Then I took down the site, and redirected it to this page. You can:
- Download or view the Memories site PDF file — it is 153 pages long, so please do the environment a favor and don’t print it!
- Download or view the Consolidated English Guide (more current than the one in the full site archive)
- Listen to an audio recording from Carla Wesson
- Listen to an audio recording from Tom Vogelman and Mary Neighbours of them singing a silly (and irreverant) song
- Watch a video of Alan climbing at Granite Point in 1990 from Craig Whitney
HodgBlog
From 2006 to 2010, I wrote a blog that I called HodgBlog, in English and Spanish, with topics ranging from foreign aid to immigration. I added a few additional posts in 2017-2018 in English only. You can download an archive of this blog:
